I woke up this morning to the news that FOX wouldn't be airing Dollhouse episode thirteen, but it would be on the DVD.
FOX then clarified that it had never intended to air epidode thirteen (oh well gee, that makes me feel better).
It's a confusing story but basically ends with the predicted outcome that FOX network is, in fact, run by a bunch-o-tools.

http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/2008-...se-hasn-t-actually-been-cancelled

http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/w...air_dollhouses_final_episode.html (careful that one's got some vague spoilers in it)

What I don't understand, is if FOX don't air the epidode that Joss &co wrote to be the last episode of season one, how will season 2 make sense??
Even if it is set in further in the future, the people who buy the dvd will then have more information that the ones that don't. And when writing season 2, the writers will have to assume that the audience HASN'T seen episode 13, because that would be alienating half their viewers. So instead they'll be leaving half their viewers going "WTF?"
Does it sound to anyone else as though FOX are not really planning to have a second season?

Oh well I guess I'll just have to express my concerns to FOX.

That's sure what it sounds like, isn't it.  Just horrible news.  I mean, why would Fox have them make x amount of episodes if they weren't planning on them all being aired?  That's insane (and not the good insaneinthebasement type insane).  So that leaves that they're not airing the season %$&^ing finale because they don't intend to bring it back.  I guess we need more of the drivel that Fox keeps putting out instead of the great shows that they keep canceling quickly.

SOunds like a way to make people buy the DVD. How about some1 out of all the Dollhouse watchers buys the boxset because they were planning to, the whole time and that person puts it on the net for the rest.
Are we sure that the episode isn't one that Fox felt they couldn't air but wanted the fans to see it anyway.
They can't have cancelled it already. Has anyone read Joss saying anything about it?

I haven't heard Joss say anything, but I do have this from Tim Minear:
Quote:
Okay. So maybe I can help clarify this somewhat. Because we scrapped the original pilot -- and in fact cannibalized some of its parts for other eps -- we really ended up with 12 episodes. But the studio makes DVD and other deals based on the original 13 number. So we created a standalone kind of coda episode. Which is the mythical new episode 13. The network had already paid for 13 episodes, and this included the one they agreed to let us scrap for parts. It does not include the one we made to bring the number back up to 13 for the studio side and its obligations. We always knew it would be for the DVD for sure, but we also think Fox should air it because it’s awesome.
Thanks to Whedonesque.

Well, that sounds a little more hopeful...

I was just about to post that, coz I just read it. So there is a 13th episode. Is it one that we really need to see. Like are we missing out by not seeing this episode?

I guess we'll have to wait and see whenever more people get to see the episode? Which is probably when the DVDs are out. The standalone aspect says maybe not? I don't really know though.

In my mind, more Dollhouse is a good thing so...
