Cavemen vs. AstronautsI just read an article about how cavemen would go competing with modern athletes, and it got me thinking about the 'Cavemen vs. Astronauts' debate from A Hole in the World.I know that in the show the argument was metaphorical, but if the topic could keep Angel and Spike involved for 40 minutes, I thought it might be able to generate some discussion here. Angel thought the human race had evolved since we were cavemen, but Spike (and all of Accounts Receivable) thought that was bollocks and we'd only evolved into namby-pamby self-analysing wankers. I read an article in the newspaper last week that indicated that the Neanderthaler was far more developed than we ever assumed. I'll try to find the article tonight, and see if it mentions an online resource. |

I voted cavemen, cause they have the instinct to hunt and fight, but astronauts... well, their jobs don't actually involve fighting. In a fight, I'd have to side with the cavemen. | ||||||

Yeah I voted cavemen and I was thinking along the same lines, it's survival for them, they have to hunt to eat so they must have picked up a few tricks. | ||||||

Astronauts rule! They could totally build more complex and effective weapons for hunting and fighting. Even though an astronaut's job today doesn't involve doing those things, being an astronaut assumes a certain level of intelligence and resourcefulness that cavemen would be lacking at that stage in our evolution. Cavemen would be stronger physically, but astronauts would be stronger mentally, and since I believe in brains over brawn (Helpless, anyone?), that puts me firmly in the astronauts camp.
And deja vu. Didn't we already have this poll awhile back? Not that I mind having it again for people who missed it the first time. I'm just making sure I'm not going crazy.... |

I'm going with Fred -But the cavemen have fire. That's what they live with in their caves. The astronauts should at least have some sort of weapon. -Cavemen win. Of course the cavemen win. |

Nope! Wesley asked about weapons and none of the two sides has them, so, even though it's a sad thought, I'll side with the cavemen. The astronauts would probably spend 2 hours trying to analyse the situation then discuss it and find a consensual, politically correct and reasonable line of action. The cavemen would just go "Ugly Beast invade our territory. Jump. Hit. Hit some more. Dead. Eat." |
