Don't be expecting a thirteenth episode...

I woke up this morning to the news that FOX wouldn't be airing Dollhouse episode thirteen, but it would be on the DVD.
FOX then clarified that it had never intended to air epidode thirteen (oh well gee, that makes me feel better).
It's a confusing story but basically ends with the predicted outcome that FOX network is, in fact, run by a bunch-o-tools.

http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/w...air_dollhouses_final_episode.html (careful that one's got some vague spoilers in it)

What I don't understand, is if FOX don't air the epidode that Joss &co wrote to be the last episode of season one, how will season 2 make sense??
Even if it is set in further in the future, the people who buy the dvd will then have more information that the ones that don't. And when writing season 2, the writers will have to assume that the audience HASN'T seen episode 13, because that would be alienating half their viewers. So instead they'll be leaving half their viewers going "WTF?"
Does it sound to anyone else as though FOX are not really planning to have a second season?

Oh well I guess I'll just have to express my concerns to FOX.

That's sure what it sounds like, isn't it.  Just horrible news.  I mean, why would Fox have them make x amount of episodes if they weren't planning on them all being aired?  That's insane (and not the good insaneinthebasement type insane).  So that leaves that they're not airing the season %$&^ing finale because they don't intend to bring it back.  I guess we need more of the drivel that Fox keeps putting out instead of the great shows that they keep canceling quickly.

Here's one more link to make light of your tears:

SOunds like a way to make people buy the DVD. How about some1 out of all the Dollhouse watchers buys the boxset because they were planning to, the whole time and that person puts it on the net for the rest.
Are we sure that the episode isn't one that Fox felt they couldn't air but wanted the fans to see it anyway.
They can't have cancelled it already. Has anyone read Joss saying anything about it?
Ebdim9th

I love Joss, I truely do, he is my Master... but maybe, just maybe he will finally learn to never, EVER do business of ANY kind with FUX ever, ever ,  ever again.

I haven't heard Joss say anything, but I do have this from Tim Minear:
Quote:
Okay. So maybe I can help clarify this somewhat. Because we scrapped the original pilot -- and in fact cannibalized some of its parts for other eps -- we really ended up with 12 episodes. But the studio makes DVD and other deals based on the original 13 number. So we created a standalone kind of coda episode. Which is the mythical new episode 13. The network had already paid for 13 episodes, and this included the one they agreed to let us scrap for parts. It does not include the one we made to bring the number back up to 13 for the studio side and its obligations. We always knew it would be for the DVD for sure, but we also think Fox should air it because it’s awesome.
Thanks to Whedonesque.
Ebdim9th

Well, that sounds a little more hopeful...

I was just about to post that, coz I just read it. So there is a 13th episode. Is it one that we really need to see. Like are we missing out by not seeing this episode?
Ebdim9th

Oops, forgot to say Hey Queen  C, long time since Ive seen a post by you myself....

I guess we'll have to wait and see whenever more people get to see the episode? Which is probably when the DVDs are out. The standalone aspect says maybe not? I don't really know though.

In my mind, more Dollhouse is a good thing so...
Ebdim9th

What would really be good is a guarantee of non-cancellation... and more of a 'second' season than Pushing Daisies got.
BepperGirl

Hey speaking of PD, Ebdim9th, did you know that ABC is going to burn off the last 3 episodes on three consecutive Saturday nights starting May 30th at 10pm?
Ebdim9th

Weird, no I didnt. I lost track after they switched the show abruptly to an unknown night. knowing it was going to be cancelled, I decided to finish watching it when the DVD's came out.... but that still sounds like fun on a Saturday night...
BepperGirl

Hm out of what's aired for season 2, it's always been Wednesdays... And DVDs are coming July 21st, one week before Dollhouse.
Ebdim9th

Thats wierd, I remember it and LOST being on different nights. But then again I remember being abducted by Greys from Zeta Reticuli so.......
BepperGirl

Nope, Futon Critic confirms. LOST hadn't started its current season by the time Daisies went into hiatus.

At least Tru Calling got a full season more than Wonderfalls got.  Hmm...I'm reminded, "%#@* FOX".  Or...as Ebdim so correctly said, FUX.
BepperGirl

Another FUX victim: The American Embassy

Anyone else remember that show? Just me then? Alright.
Ebdim9th

Why do they even bother? FOX should just go all reality show all the time and get it over with. At least Joss wont make the mistake of thinking theyll pick up and keep another one of his shows again...
QueenC(becauseitsmyname)

*WAVES* to Ebdim9th   Think of something cool, pretend I said it

WE don't acctually know that DOllhouse is cancelled right? When will we know if we don't?
BepperGirl

As far as we know right now, Dollhouse is NOT cancelled.

I'm guessing we'll know for sure by upfronts, which is about a month away. (Ignore the fact that FOX picked up Tru Calling for a second season and then cancelled it before any of the season 2 episodes aired. And then burned off five of the six already made the following March. Never even aired the last one.)
NotFadeAway

One really annoying thing about FUX is the fact that I can't NOT watch the network.  Even though they constantly cancel great shows without even giving them a chance, they always are coming out with good shows (Tru Calling, Wonderfalls, Firefly, Terminator, and Dollhouse), even though the good shows almost never get to stick around (24 is the only 'safe' show that I've watched on FUX for many years.)  It's really infuriating, but it's hard to not watch a great show.

However, I haven't watched anything at all on the CW since they canceled Veronica Mars...
