For gorram sake why not here.

Damn straight! Good idea.
As for Firefly related randomonium, I tend to swear some in Chinese now, it's so funny because no-one has any idea what I'm saying. And I use the words "gorram" and "shiny".

So I'm doing my big Research Project assignment on the works of Joss Whedon right. And for our first assignment, a literature review, I read and analysed a few Buffy/Firefly essays that various people and scholars had written. One of the essays was about how the women in Firefly are more powerful than the men, and one of the things I mentioned was the fact that prostitutes are viewed as high-ranking nobles in that 'verse.
Hang in there, the long background information is relevant to the point of this post.
I went to talk to my tutor for that module yesterday, to ask his advice about the final essay - he thinks I should talk about how women are represented in Joss' shows, feminism and power an' all that - and he got to talking about my literature review.
He specifically pointed out the bit about Companions, saying that I could use that in my final project, and then said "actually, I'm quite intrigued by that myself, I've never seen Firefly but I quite want to watch it now. It sounds interesting."
As you can imagine, my reaction was fairly positive. Spreading the love for Firefly, anywhere and everywhere. Woo-hoo!!

Day 1
I went to go get a picture signed and in the line I was so nervously excited to meet him and when I finally got there he was so nice and we talked about Names because of the Aussie accent he couldn't understand some guy's name he thought it was Dane...when it was Dean..anyways Nice guy!.
What I got signed...It was $30 to sign it..
Then I was first in line to have a picture with him....and he asked me how my day was going...and we had the photo..
...couple hours later at the seminar.
he went around the stage the wrong way and instead of going up the stairs he did a full action jump up....and he commented on how awesome the crowd was for making him feel welcome.....he then went to talk about how bad Australian Bacon was.. then he talked about how he found out they were doing Serenity..Joss rang him and told he I have some good news and some bad news, good news is we are doing a firefly movie...bad news Book is going to die... then he talked about his favorite scene which was the night scene. He also talked about the Cornrows which was his choice because he loves an excuse to anything with his hair...After the movie finished at the wrap party after 2 and half Martinis he cut his Cornrows off and that was sorta like saying bye to Book. he said he cried for days when Firefly was canceled. He also talked about his bathroom which is green.
Day 2.
I went and got another thing signed for someone because they didn't want to wait in line...(I would wait in line for hours and Hours...its RON GLASS!) anyways I got to the signing place and there was no line *evil laugh* and I went up to him..and he said hey I remember you you where here yesterday and we talked about the day before. again such a really nice guy.
ok second day seminar
He said the bacon was any better...and he talked about the episode and character from Star Trek he did..and a few movies he liked...and he was asked who he would take on a desert island and he said his nephew. I asked him what was his favourite episode and he said it was the Pilot....there was a loud announcement speaker that was well loud and Ron jokingly said hey its my turn..(I recorded it on my phone If I get get it to work I will try to post on youtube and put the link here...
[Mental Blank] I will post more later
Pictures from the second day...I took better pictures on the first day..We had front row seats...until someone with a VIP pass sat in front of us...but she moved over

I can't believe you had to pay $30 for an autograph. I would have thought since they would be getting paid for appearing then autographs would be free. Glad you had fun tho.

Its $30 for an autograph and they give you a free glossy picture.....$30 to have your picture taken with them...and an extra $30 for them to sign that picture

Sounds like you had a great time Myst.
Thats one thing that bothers me about conventions. You pay a lot for the ticket and then you have to pay again sometimes for photos and autographs......I would still love to go to one but it seems an awful lot of money, especially if there were a lot of people there you wanted to meet.

I loaned my Firefly boxset to my uni friend who's also a Buffy fan, and she finished watching it this week. I got a text from her saying "Firefly can't just end there!!! There are many subplots to finish!!! Curse you fox!!! I feel so lost now"

I stuck in a Firefly reference in the title for my Media essay. It's about the representation of women in horror movies, and it's called "Big Damn Heroes, Damsels in Distress, or Angels of Vengeance?"

Just randomly (well duh- randomonium), on the DVD deleted scenes it has that scene from Objects in Space where River picks up the branch/gun from the floor and it says it was in the original broadcast but was taken off the DVDs for some unknown reason. I double checked and... not so much?? Does everyone elses DVDs have it in? It just seemed very strange to have a deleted scene that is in the original broadcast, and actually IS on the DVD...

My friend was looking through my Bebo page and came across Sadia and read the comments I had written about wanting the T-shirt (which I am getting yay!!) and the Jayne hats.
Anyway, she was up at my house yesterday and was asking about what it was all about (also because she had a wee look at Sadia's pics) and thought maybe I was joining some sort of cult where we talked about Serenity and wore silly hats.......LOL

Lol, brilliant! I guess the whole Browncoat fandom is almost like a cult, in that we're totally passionate about it, but anyone is welcome to join! Silly but cunning hats are totally encouraged
At one of the screenings in America, the audience was lined up outside the theatre to buy their tickets for the screening, and apparently alot of them were dressed up (Hawaiian shirts, Jayne hats, etc) and the organiser heard a random member of the public say something like "they must be auditioning for something...". Amusing!

when we caught the train into to town for the melbourne csts screening, it was saturday night and the train was pretty full but i spotted an orange jayne hat across the carriage, and i so badly wanted to go up and say hello to the person with the secret browncoat handshake (which i would have made up) but i was too scared incase they were for real wearing that hat cause its winter and cold and they would think i wa very wierd.
of course they ended up at CSTS with all the other jayne hats, but you canny never be sure.

| Ebdim9th wrote: | | Has anybody read Joss's Serenity missing-link-from-Firefly graphic novel Those Left Behind? |
Of course! I was a bit disappointed at its length, but I thought it was nice that it covered an explanation for what happened between the end of the show and the movie, and that it explained Book's decision to leave the ship.
Also, the return of Dobson was unexpected, and the end of the Hands of Blue was fairly awesome.
|
Ebdim9th

Actually, compared to comic books, it felt longish. I liked the difference. Seems like a lot of story got told.
And that extra shot into Dobson, just to make sure, priceless. Seemed very Whedonesque to me.

I just watche dan episode of the X-Files with mark Sheppard in... I spent half the episode trying to work out who he was.
Don't you hate it when that happens? The guy who plays Luke keeps cropping up in unexpected programmes and I get all confused.
There was one time the guy who plays the Judge came in and I got REALLY frustrated cos seen as he's kinda... well.. BLUE in Buffy I had absolutely no idea where he came from....
Rant now over =D

I feel that Sliders went extremely downhill after the professor left. John Rhys Davies was the reason for me loving the show.
|
TwoToGo-Grave

Personally, I really think that it began going downhill at the beginning of season three (Rhys-Davies [ahem...] left in the middle of season three). It seemed that they just got away from the character based greatness of the first two years and emphasized wild worlds and guest stars and bad special effects. I do love those first two seasons though.

Hi again... Yeah I received it, thanks. My mom is doing a lot better. She has to take medicine, but she will be fine (back to the darts, and Ti-chi). I am trying to post/read at least once a day... or at least a few times a week. I find it helps to revieve stress to "talk" to friends about things that you enjoy (or not).
------------------
That is a cool photo, thanks for the post. Yeah I am a bit of a basic carver myself... you know eyes, nose, teeth. I saw something on TV about this burning kit that can help create that type of "art work"... problem is... you have to be able to draw in the first place. (Unless you cheat and get a stencile or friend to draw it out first). Anyway, Good pic!!
Talk to you soon, I have to go now... CP ;o)

I play a really old game on my really old Palm Pilot, called Space Trader. You can work your way up getting better ships, and one is a Firefly. You go to different planets trading stuff and you can either be law-abiding or trade in guns & narcotics, running from police.

Session 416 was incredibly cool. I don't want to say anything about it (to keep from spoiling anyone), except that it was incredibly cool. Also, the new commentary is awesome. It has Joss Whedon, Ron Glass, Adam Baldwin, Nathan Fillion, and Summer Glau. The new featurette that has a tour through Serenity (called something like 'Take a Walk Through Serenity') was short, but cool. Also, the 'Filmaker's Journey' featurette was really cool also.

I'm glad to hear the new commentary is good, that's one of the features I was most looking forward to getting! Gah, I hate not having it, I can't wait to get the special edition! Unfortunately lack of funds is getting in the way.
