randomonium in sunnydaleI sometimes want to say stuff about buffy that doesn't really fit anywhere else, and isn't worthy of its own thread.
So I thought a randomonium thread might do the trick.
The other night I was at a party and I saw a postcard on somebodys fridge. It was one of those old school postcards with a pulp book cover, and slogan on it, and some scantily clad betty from ages ago.
Anyway the title of the book was "when she was bad" and the catch phrase was exactly describing the BTvS episode of the same name. sorry for the lack of verbatim, but, uh I had fun at the party!

My husband and kids watched the last few episodes of season 7 with me and I'm so happy about it! My husband, who has been totally against Buffy until now, said "time for bed kids, yo", just like Faith said to Robin, "it is what is, yo!"

Cool! My husband is less forgiving when it comes to Buffy references. He was messing with my head tonight. Everytime I see an actor or actress that was on Buffy, I have to tell my husband. He's been joking around that it's getting old, so I've tried to not point out Buffy-related people as often. Tonight we were watching House and it was the episode where Michelle Trachtenburg guest starred. I saw her and looked at my husband to get his reaction. (Nothing.) The conversation went like this:
Me: "I'm not going to say it."
Him: "She looks familiar.... Was she on Buffy?...."
Me: "Yes! She was Dawn! You know, Buffy's sister?"
Him: "No way. Buffy had a sister? When was that?"
Me: "Only ALL of seasons 5-7! You never saw her when Gabe and I would watch?"
Him: (laughing) "I'm just kidding! Of course I know who that is. It's DAWN for crying out loud. Come on!"
He's evil sometimes.

Yesterday I watched Tabula Rasa again. And it's soooo funny! I mean, how many times we heard someone called Xander as Alex?!?!! And the whole Randy and Joan line. There are so many quotes in this piece that I just can't decide which one is the funniest...
And that's so cute, when they scream when they first see the vampies. The acting was hilarious in this one...
Anyway, the whole episode is just cute. Except of course the begining and the ending...

And two days ago I watched Two to go as well. And I seen it like five or six time before this time, but there was a part, when it hitted me: jesus, how far we came from the start?!?!!
I mean, there was that cute speech from Jonathan in the car about "just Willow", but that scene not made me realize. But nearly at the end of the episode, when Buffy and Willow are going to fight and Buffy asks Willow: "Are we really gonna do this?!" That was it. I was like: "good god, this can't be true. Just take a look at Willow in any season 1-3, she was a real sidekick, okay, but never even came close to be as powerful or big as Buffy. And they were friends from the begining, never EVER hurt each other in any way. And in this episode they are enemies. They hurt each other. Good god, Willow even tried to kill Buffy.
Okay, my whole post doesn't really have any sense or point, just thinking, posting and saying what's everyone thinking. I know that the I don't discover anything new or something. As I said, it just hit me at that point. The whole Buffy-Willow history rolled down before my eyes and it was pretty shocking...

I can't talk about Buffy in front of my sister anymore because according to her I'm so obsessed with it that it's put her off But meh, I still do tend to ramble...
Also, I was at my cousin's last night and went online to check the forum and when he saw the title (Buffy and Angel Trivia Guide) he was like "you SAD SAD LOSER!" and my sister basically agreed by calling me a pathetic git. I responded with "hey, at least I didn't make a RONALDO video going on about HOW MUCH I LOVE HIM! Watching Buffy makes me happy, it's something that I really love so go on all you like, I really don't care. Get it up ye!"
Negative Buffy references, not fun.
|
DarthRosenberg
|
Yesterday I realised that my obsession is going on like two years now. And my best friend was always so negative about my whole Buffyness. She thought that this is just a kindling, nothing serious. But now, she starting to accept it and she sometimes even laugh on my Buffy-jokes and tells some references her own (because she used to like the show, until season 6, when - according to her - it all became too complex and Dawsony...). So I think she finally realised that this is not a kindling or anything like that...

what a great thing that we all have this site to make us normal again.
speaking of which... I watched season 6 disc 5 the other day and i had this really profound moment about what an awesome disc it is...
hells bells
normal again
entropy
seeing red
allen ginsberg (buddy of keroac) wrote this great book, with an even better title "reality sandwiches"... and i kinda named this disc after it.
hells bells, so surreal that anya suddenly has this whole network of demon-american friends and family, and that she suddenly chooses hideous green dresses when her keen prada eye promised us so much in her early days... and that vision of the future that wreaked such havoc in xanders mind. reality?
normal again: well like it or hate it, it still throws up the idea that perhaps none of it is real at all, and asks us to ponder the potential for the human mind to take comfort from pain in creating and subverting realities
entropy: where the awful culmination of spike and buffys intense connection, her walking away after him yearning for her so long, and him after all being a monster... he tried to give her everything but in the end he hurt her worse than any creature of evil could...
and then the gun-- since when do people get killed by guns on buffy?
seeing red: willows darkness, like a bubble, eventually rises to the surface. its an extreme situation that brings this forth, but whats done is done, and willow as we knew her is irrevocably lost.

Cardboardy - what excellent insights you have made, although it pains me to think of these episodes. I have watched these episodes the least (even though I love season 6) because they all make me too sad, too pained. But they are "reality sandwiches" so maybe that's why they bother me.
Also, side note, something that drives me crazy in the ep my family watched last night "Chosen", after Buffy finds the scythe, Giles says to her "do you feel anything when you hold it" and she says "not much" and then "but it's strong"...HOW can that be? It's a complete contradiction and drives me crazy!!! Can someone please explain how she doesn't feel much but it's strong?

The thing that annoys me the most is the fact that she found the sycthe in the second to last episode. Seems like an easy way out. If they had found it early on in the season then i would have been happier.

Last night I was watching the final of "World Series of Pop Culture" on VH1 (sad, sad, I know, but hey! my team won!) and they were halfway through one of the categories (TV Teen Dramas) one of the questions was: "On Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Buffy and her cohorts call them selves this, after what cartoon character?" (or something like that ... but they did say 'cohorts'). The first lady got it wrong but the second one (the won for my team, haha) was like "duh, the scoobies." I could have peed on myself. I don't know why, but it was much more exciting last night. And I was really tired.

I heard a question about Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Jeopardy on a couple of occasions (one asked what show had an episode entitled "Never Kill a Boy on the First Date" and I don't remember the other one asked, but I think it was something about Oz.) I had a looong weekend... I watched: No place like home, Becoming part 2., End of days, Chosen and Something blue.
It was a teary weekend with all these epis... I mean, cry on Becoming part 2, cry on End of days, cry on Chosen. And yes, cry on Something blue.... because of laughing...
And how can I not crying on Spike's speech to Buffy in Touched?! It was because I think of the stupid synch. I have this epi on tape and I watched it on video for three or four times. But now I had the chance to watch it in original language and it was way better. And Spike's speech was way more touching. So I can't really stand now the Hungarian version.

I think I have told a few of you this before but I thought I would post it in here anyway.
Last Christmas I bought a small Nativity Scene and I was putting out the figures and my daughter was asking me the names of the wee people.
So, I got to the Angel and she asked me "who's that"?
I replied, "that's the Angel".
My daughter (who was 4 at the time) then said, "where's Buffy?".
I was quite shocked but secretly quite chuffed at the same time......do you think my kids might be a bit brainwashed??

Yesterday my best friend (who is a totally anti-Buffy friend) came over to me and we have some sweet wine and a really deep conversation. And when in a really short time the fourth Buffy-reference came in to mind I had to laugh out loud and I said: Okay, I'm totally crazy. She asked why so I told her about how can I connect everything to Buffy... She seemed pretty unconcerned about my mental status so I have to tell her the whole Giles-Olivia scene in Hush (the "small-talk" part). And guess what! SHE LIKED IT! SHE LAUGHED ON IT!!!!
So being brainwashed isn't so bad sometimes!

Okay, now I'm really pissed!!! As I said before a chanel still shows Buffy every sunday morning at 8 AM. But it's censored, so they cut off the violence, the fights and all the sex scenes and stuffs. It's really bad, almost unstandable, but I can't stop watching it because it's still Buffy... We are at season 5 now and yesterday it was Family on. I really like this epi and the ending of it is so cute. Now guess what!
THEY CUT OFF HOW WILLOW AND TARA DANCED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They showed the conversation ("You always make me feel special...") and then cut to the end credits!!!! What the hell was wrong with that dance scene?!?!?!?!?!
I mean: we did saw Buffy and Riley making out and Xander with Anya and we did saw Spike's first "sexy" dream with Buffy.... So tell me: what the hell was age limiting in that scene?!?!

I know, it is really annoying.
When I first got into Buffy, I was watching all the episodes on Sky One as they were being shown in order.
But the bad thing was I missed a lot of scenes and episodes.
It wasn't until I bought my DVD's that I finally saw Hush and The Body, two of the best episodes in the series.
They also cut out a lot, like in After Life, when Anya cuts her face with the knife.
The only explanation I can think of for them cutting the dancing scene in Family is that it was two lesbians doing the dancing - which is quite silly really as they weren't kissing or anything.
|
DarthRosenberg
|
Yep, I'm really afraid of The Body. I mean how they will cut it... Okay, I'm sure now, that Willow's and Tara's first on-screen kiss, but can I see how Xander hits the wall or that would be too... self-destructive?!?!
|
Mel
|
If your TV Channels are anything like ours then The Body won't get shown at all - they will just skip right past in onto Forever.

I think I'm gonne burn down the channel shows Buffy if they skip The Body. Or maybe I will glueing them together or something.
This whole censoring stuff is very annoying and they have the guts to change the credits as well. They show a sign at the beginning of the credits, that Buffy light, not Buffy the vampire slayer.....

I don't get it either Beags, but they missed it out completely when it was shown in the morning over here.
I don't know why they would, I mean, in all seriousness, the only part that they may need to cut would be Willow & Tara's kiss, although I don't see why they should even need to cut that, as in later seasons they show them in bed together.
Another scene that I never saw in full until I had my DVD's was the flaying of Warren.
It was actually pretty cool as I had never known that there was more to that scene, so when I watch my DVD's for the first time, I got a bit of a shock!

Screw that station. I mean, no one should mess with any show as great as Buffy the Vampire Slayer (or engage in censorship of any sort.)
In addition to my short rant I wanted to mention that my brother and I found some Buffy the Vampire Slayer shirts at a store in the mall today, and we are both eager to get a chance to wear them somewhere (they just have a logo of the show on them, and they look really awesome.) Anyway, I just wanted to mention this. Bye all.

Last night I watched Homecoming and noticed a couple interesting things. Willow has a Scooby Doo lunch box which she used to carry her "forensics kit" in. Also I found Oz's "That thing when you bail in the middle of an upsetting conversation" line to be just like Willow's "I'm storming off" line later in Doppelgangland.
|
greengirl00
|
Okay, I just watched The Wish, and you know the whole thing with 'Anyanka's Power Center'? Well, she says in Doppelgangland that if she gets her necklace back she'll get her powers back, well, when she goes demony again she doesn't have a power center, so HOW DOES THAT WORK????
(and also... she gave the necklace to Cordelia... great move...)
|
beagle
|
My guess is that she has one, we just don't know what it is. Maybe something like a belly button ring/
|
Sunnydalehigh
|
I think when she becomes a vengeance demon again she gets a new power center. You can see it around her neck in Selfless.
Which reminds me of another point. Why doesn't Buffy just grab Anya's power center necklace off her neck after she stabs Anya in Selfless? Then when Anya pulls the sword out and heals, Buffy could just smash the necklace and voila, Anya would lose her powers, but not her life, like Xander wanted. I suppose then Anya wouldn't be able to take back killing those frat boys. I was more sorry to see Hallie go than the 12 boys. Oh well.
|
greengirl00
|
But doesn't smashing the power center reverse the wishes?
|
DarthRosenberg
|
Yeah, I think the smashing reverse the wish... as it happened in The Wish.
I'm just wondering: everyone is up on Season 3 now?!?! Because I watched The Zeppo last night too (before that I watched Gingerbread) and I noticed that almost everyone watching season 3 epis now... Funny!!!
|
Wynter
|
Buffy didn't know that smashing the necklace would reverse the wishes. Giles was the only one who figured it out in the alternate universe in The Wish but since he smashed that necklace and reversed everything, to Buffy's (and everyone else's) knowledge, none of that happened. So she couldn't have known. If Giles had been there at the time then maybe he would've looked it up and found out that way but Giles was back in England and Buffy was too impatient to get the books out and hit research mode, I think.
|
DarthRosenberg
|
Yes, that's the point. The smashing act would reverse the wish but no one knew this fact. And Giles wouldn't remeber it either. So they would have to look up the thing in the books again to find out and yes, they were all very impatient then... thanks to those big spider things.... (HATE SPIDERS!!!!!)
|
greengirl00
|
by the way, does Anya remember the wish? i guess she wouldn't, because when it's reversed she's still saying 'done'. But she does seem to know about it in doppelgangland when she's asking for her powers back, and when she meets vamp Willow... hmmm....

Gabe and I watched the second half of S7 this weekend. He finally saw Chosen. He thought it was awesome (of course) and was sad that it was over. In only took us 9 months (!) to see them all (because he's only over on weekends and because he can't come over every weekend, so we try to do marathons when he's here).
The first thing he said when it was over was "Now we have to watch them all in order again." I LOVE this kid! We still have to watch Angel in it's entirety. Gee, that should only take us about 6 months....

Don't shoot me, but who's Gabe? And where can I get one for Buffy marathon purposes?

LOL! Gabe is my 12-year-old godson. When I bought the Chosen Collection last year, we started watching all the episodes in order. (I had seen them all before, but he hadn't.) We just finished this weekend. Sorry, but this Gabe is taken. You'll have to find your own Gabe for Buffy marathons.... Haha!
Congratuations on your 100th post, MysteryEND! And no, I don't think anyone here thinks OMWF is the worst episode. Maybe it's not everyone's favorite, but it's certainly not anyone's worst episode ever.
