The Dollhousecause its exciting, and cause its a TV show that will get made after the writers strike has won better conditions for writers and all who are involved in film and TV, I thought I'd make a thread about The Dollhouse.
I found a website called dollverse, well its more of a blog really, but there you go!
anyone come across any other cool sites, or goss?
I'm loving the idea of the show. on this dollverse site someone makes the suggestion that the show sounds similar to (insert name of two shows ive never seen, one being alias). but the concept really has me thinking about BSG. Joss said last year that he thought BSG was the best TV show ever and (im paraphrasing) he thought it so brilliant that it gave him low self esteem. haha joss, you darlin.
any, BSG. so Joss is a fan, and the concept of dollverse is all about a girl who is controlled and used for some greater, sinister purpose, and slowly has a self awakening. Cylon much? cool!!
whatever it is, its coming our way. you State-side kids have lots of work to do to make sure everyone you ever meet watches the show when it airs... cause if you dont, then you know what happens!!

Hooray Joss!!!!!!!!!
I really can't wait for this show. I mean, The Man has made three shows and they're pretty much the three greatest shows I've ever seen. I'm sure this one will be amazing as well. I just hope FOX doesn't screw over his show again.

I'm so looking forward to this (ure so lucky it's coming out in the states!).
Joss' strong point is TV, so it'll be really good to see him making another show.
|
beagle
|
Yes, I can't wait. I guess we are still probably a year away and so many things can happen but... From what I hear Eliza has already been cast but you know how that is. When Fox gets through with it they'll probably cast some young fresh faced stick figure in her place. I heard on a podcast that james marsters was being considered for eliza's character's romantic interest.
Has anyone heard anything lately about Goners?
|
beagle
|
Oh, I see Eliza is a producer... giddy
A little bit:
Eliza says of Joss...
But we're both major fans of some of the previous people that we've worked with in other shows, and we also have writers from Buffy that are going to be coming over and joining us.

Right now the writers strike is holding it up so, I know it usually takes a week or two to write and a week or two to shoot so... Seems like it would take up to 6 months to produce 7 episodes. But then, would it be a mid season addition or wait til the start of next season,,, don't know. Actually I don't know what the heck I'm talking about, but that's the best I can figure.
So I would guess it will be a year before we get to sink our teeth into some more delicious Joss TV.

as a gesture of support for the writers strike, i bring you
Echo Montage
BALLERINA:
But always, at that same moment, I slip. - It isn't just the same ballet. It's the same performance. I don't dance. I echo.
Willow looks down at the three red scratches on the back of her hand. Oz turns and runs off.
WILLOW: Oz! - Oz, don't leave me! (echoes) Don't leave me! Don't leave me!
WILLOW: By force of heart and mindful power, by waning time and waxing hour ... I echo Diana, um, when I decree ... uh, what is it, what is it?
(but Glory already has her hands inside Tara's head)
FRED: Nothing. I can't seem to find anything wrong with you. I mean... ...except that you're empty. There's nothing left. Just a shell.
(she puts her ear to his chest)
ANGEL: I think I can hear the ocean in there. (calls, listening for the echo) Hello? Hello!
ILLYRIA: And now nightmares are trapped inside the heads of humans... pitiful echoes of themselves. I wonder whom they angered so to merit such a fate.
WESLEY: This world must be a terrible disappointment to you.
ILLYRIA: Grievous.
AMANDA: And by the time I was finished, the place was empty, so it was all echoy and lonely.
JONATHAN: Check.
ANDREW: Check. Check.
JONATHAN: Check. Check.
ANDREW: Check. Check. Check.
JONATHAN: Check. Echo 2 to Echo 1.
ANDREW: This is Echo 1. Go ahead.
JONATHAN: Do you think they'll really let us join their gang?

That's odd, it should. I don't know yet if James Marsters is in the show at all, that's just a list of characters, not who's playing them. I don't think we'll know that for a while yet, or at least until the casting process is finalised.

Well, Joss himself has said that relations between himself and FOX are better than they used to be, because it's under new management, and it's a fresh start. And I heard FOX double the number of episodes from 7 to 14, so that bodes well! I think this time, it really could be different.

Yes,,,, And Fox's response. haha
I don't know what will happen to Dollhouse. I do believe it will have to be a commercial success to remain on Fox.
I also don't know if it will be able to appeal to mainstream America and be as good as we know it could be.
I don't think the average person ,(the audiance needed for real monitary success), really gets that kind of story. Just like they don't get me, and probably the majority of us here on this forum.
That leads me to speculate, though be it wildly, that our best hope for it would be that it be picked up by a cable network that could give Joss the reigns to create the kind of TV that we all adore.
But hey, at least Fox is giving it a chance and that's worth kudos in my book.

Joss' sho thatws always got away with more than others. Also his pilot is 7 eps long. I think if buff and angel fans kept those going Dollhouse will make it to season 5, but not past five with fox. Doll house gonna be diff to buff and angel but there is the fan base that each actor already has, fans of that type of show, fans that watch all joss' stuff...I think there will be enough people watching to keep it going. But are the actors in dollhouse all well known enough to have a fan base? That didn't matter when buff started. I think dollhouse needs to be more Angel then firefly. What firefly had didn't appeal to peeps but Angel did. I remember something about them getting viewers for Angel that were old, like older then the crowd that watched buff. It had a whole detective thing going on, and there has always been detective shows on tv. So it was a miss of old and new stuff. Firfly, speaking a different language, "average joe american" prob not happy about that, and maybe detective type shows are liked more than westerns. If dollhouse doesn't speak other languages than english to much and is not at all like a western, it will make it

New Fox drama "Dollhouse" suspends productionNew Fox drama "Dollhouse" suspends production
By Nellie Andreeva
Wed Sep 10, 8:15 PM ET
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - A second midseason Fox series, producer Joss Whedon's new drama "Dollhouse," has shut down production for a couple of weeks to work on scripts.
Filming on "Dollhouse" stopped Thursday after wrapping episode three. It came at the request of Whedon, who had had spent little time in the writers room lately, busy directing the first two episodes of the series. Not completely happy with the quality of upcoming scripts, he asked producing studio 20th TV for a timeout.
Production on the midseason sci-fi drama starring Eliza Dushku is slated to resume September 25.
Production on another Fox/20th TV midseason drama series, "24," will be suspended next week for 18 days to do extra work on scripts.

Ok, so Joss himself asked for production to be stopped so he could work on scripts? That's fine. I heard that FOX did it because they thought the plot was too thick for their viewers. *wraps hands around FOX executive's throat* But if it was at Joss' request, then that's fine with me!

Not happy found out Dollhouse is playing here but only on 10HD and we dont have HD in fact we cant get HD the only tower that supplies our area is Analog and the council hasnt got enough money to put up a digital one. Also this meens when the analog gets turned off which it is scheduled to then we wont have TV at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But everyone have a good time watching I will have to down load it too.

OH I KNEW THAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN! Stupid Channel 10 they are so mean, they do exactly the same thing with Battlestar Galactica. Buy the rights to it, but then only air it on the HD channel.
Marv, I think by law you have to be provided with at least some TV (maybe only one channel, I don't really know, but I'm pretty sure at least one), so maybe when the analogue gets turned off they will have to improve the reception. Do you live out in the bush?
Anyway, I might be completely wrong about all that, but I think it's because of emergency announcements and such. Last week when the bushfires were about to hit towns, they had warnings on the TV and radio, but there were places where the electricity had gone out so they got no warning. Pretty awful.

If you're lucky enough to live in the US (or have a US Hulu or Amazon account) then the first ep is downloadable now.
The rest of the world might have to resort to criminal activity for now, and if you're ok with that, you can follow this link:
http://www.megavideo.com/?v=06GIYEI3
Depending on the network, episodes are often taken off that site pretty quickly, so I can't say it'll be there forever.

I think we will still get Adelaide community TV we are in Angaston in the Barossa Valley about 1 1/2 hrs from Adelaide. The problem is that we are in a valley and the digital tower is on the other side of a big hill, we dont get very good radio reception either. But the local fire station has warning sirens for the valley so we dont have to rely on tv or radio, they test it every wednesday night and it goes off at 8:30 in the morning if it is a fire ban day.
The council is petitioning the government for funding for the tower but no one knows if it will go ahead, I wont hold my breath.
Also Bones will be the next to go it has been moved back to 9:30 on sunday night.

OK, without getting into spoilers I would say the episode, especially if you've been reading the prior press, was a good beginning. I am afraid although, that the avg veiwer, not being aware of or probably even caring about the direction of the series may not have been satisfied. My friend C, being in that catagory actually liked ep. 1 on it's own merits but I temper that with the fact that C is pretty dang smart and not normal at all.
It took me a bit to accept Eliza as Echo. Not sure if it was totally my love for the Faith character or not but there were at least two moments where I felt completely connected to the Echo character through Elizas acting. It was actually touching. I can't wait to see what happens next!
The cast of characters are also interestingly flawed, I can't wait to see what makes them tick. But mostly I care about them to varying degrees which I consider a success.

argh just lost another post!
ok im breaking it down to the two most salient points
- dollhouse rocks!!!!!!
- i feel a little disappointed that so many whedon fans, who see themselves as commentators and critics, are being really hard on this show! way to be supporttive. obviously not talking about my restlessbtvs pals
xx

ildjarn

Why? If you think it's crap, say it's crap and don't lie. You could reverse it even: Are you saying it's good because it's by Joss and you support him no matter what, or because you really think it's good?
Personally, I think it's promising, and the first two episodes were good, but the third one was mediocre at its best. Still have to watch episodes 4 and 5.
|
cardboardy
|
sure, i totally take your point... and i honestly dont know the answer. i cant suddenly stop being a whedon fan in order to view this objectively.... but i guess i just express myself as a fan differently. i just think there is a lot of negativity about this show coming from the very ranks that should be its early core fan base.
on some other buffy forums people spend alot of time dissecting the show with a focus on the worst episodes, the worst scenes, the worst actors, the worst lines, the worst scripts etc etc etc.... and thats all well and good, i get it, people want to keep talking about the show & its a show thats been off air for 5 years now, and new material is hard to come by. but one of the (many) reasons i like this here forum is that its really positive and apart from the occasional debates about normal again or beer bad, there's not much energy spent criticising the shows.
obviously with dollhouse quality needs to be the ultimate decider, but i think that there is a lot of static out there dedicated to picking apart the dollhouse. and yet the same people are weeping about how its inevitable that fox is gonna cancel the show... and im wondering, can you have it both ways?
on the other hand dollhouse is just starting out and the 'fans' started a save the dollhouse campaign before the shows pilot was even scripted.
perhaps its inevitable that with the territory of whedons divine role as the god king of tv comes a great deal of expectation.
anyway its a good point ild, but i reckon that ultimately i have reason to believe that this show is going places, and that three episodes (which is all i have seen too,, and i thought the 3rd episode was pretty hilarious) is just scratching the surface, er the roof of the dollhouse.

Great posts cardy. While I agree with Ildjarn that we should be honest about the quality, I certainly think that we (the collective we of Whedon fans) need to be positive and try to help encourage new viewers. Even little things like running episodes constantly on Hulu (which me and TwoToGo have been doing), or trying to promote it in non-TV forums, or any number of other things, only contribute to the show's potential success, with no downside.
I really think that we should all try to do our part to promote the show, in whatever small way we can.

I am a massice Joss fan as you all know LOL but I am not sure about Dollhouse yet. It just didnt capture me the way that Firefly did.
I am watching, I am sticking with it as the first episodes were good, then not so much, although the latest episode was okay.
The FBI guy who is trying to find Echo is so annoying, I cant help but think that JOss should have cast someone else in this role..

So what do you guys think of the recent episode......I have to admit the show is getting better,
I knew there was something about Melly the Neighbour.........I am liking that she is an active.
Also, the whole creepy handler abusing Sierra......that was wrong on so many levels but did show just how vulnerable the actives are.
Also, Du Witt........she is one scary ass woman.......dont think I would like to cross her.

Do you think that Paul will be a doll now?

To answer the first question: YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved last night's episode soooo much ('Omega', although I loved 'Briar Rose' a ton also.) I mean, we get to see AFT (Alan Fucking Tudyk)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Words cannot express how awesome it was to see AFT show up. I won't write anything else here, since it appears you haven't seen 'Omega' yet.
Also, I hate it so much that this awesome show is almost certain to be canceled, while so much junk pollutes the airwaves. It's just disgusting.
